Kode Power

An avid fan of computer programming, she founded Kode with Klossy to empower girls to learn coding and overall advance women in the field of technology. The organization hosts coding camps for young females and awards scholarships to women looking to enter the field of coding or advance their present careers in the industry. Kode with Klossy partners with companies to create apprenticeships for the girls. Partners include Adidas, Vice, Instagram, WeWork, and Condé Nast. In an interview with Refinery29, Kloss spoke of the organization’s ambitions. “The main goal is to strengthen the pipeline for women in tech. The ambition with the Kode With Klossy Career scholarship is to help reach women who are dedicated to putting their coding skills to use professionally to close the job gap now.” The organization now offers camps in 10 cities across the country and it recently opened its first office in New York City.

If anyone finds this way off base for a fashion model to be so interested in coding, Kloss draws the parallels between the tech and fashion industries. In an interview with Teen Vogue, she said,

“People don’t always associate fashion with tech, but the intersection of these two industries is where I found my groove. Every day, I see technology become more important to both the business and creativity of fashion. I am fascinated by how code has transformed entire industries and powers so much of the technology that we rely on everyday. I wanted to understand more about how tools and apps were developed.”

Kookie Power

Technology isn’t Karlie Kloss’ only passion. She’s also an avid baker and teamed up with the popular New York City bakery Momofuku Milk Bar to create the Perfect 10 Kookie, a dairy-free, gluten-free cookie dubbed “fashionably wholesome.”

To further the goodness in these cookies, for every one cookie purchased, 10 school lunches are donated through FEED, an organization created by Lauren Bush Lauren in 2007 to combat hunger in the world. Karlie’s Kookies are healthy, yummy and making an impact in the world’s battle against hunger.
