New Year’s Eve night. It’s one of the few nights a year where we’re given our glam pass to sparkle and shine while ringing out the old and ringing in the new. Wondering how to up the ante with your beauty look and achieve some makeup perfection this New Year’s Eve?
With the holidays upon us once again, we decided to check in with makeup artist extroardinare Hector Simancas to get an inside scoop on the beauty looks that are trending for this most festive time of year. Simancas work has appeared around the world and in the pages of Elle, Vogue Italia and Harper’s Bazaar, to name a few. Hector also happened to be Avon’s lead makeup artist on this season of Project Runway. Here’s his advice for achieving the perfect party look.
New Year’s Eve Look
According to Simancas, this season, it’s all about the lips, glowing skin and simple eyes.
“Like I always say, the most important thing is taking care of your skin year round,” he says. Before important events he recommends using the following products for great skin: Colbert MD.’s Illumino Anti-Aging Brightening Mask. Apply the mask for 15-20 minutes. After removing the mask, follow it up with ElizabethArden Ceramide Capsules. Chanel Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lipcare does wonders to retain the lips’ moisture in the winter months with its hydrating Camelia Oil.
For Your Skin
To get your glow on, and for the skin’s beauty look the night of, start with a base of foundation to create an even skin tone. Simancas uses Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick in 2.5 and3.5. For contouring, he suggests using cream kit in Fair from Anastasia Beverly Hills or any other bronzer you prefer. Finally, apply translucent loose powder, such as Cle De Peau Beaute, his favorite.
For The Eyes
Next, for eyes, Simancas suggests using Mothership 1 Subliminal Palette from Pat McGrath Labs, a combination of Ultima Taupe, Depth, Pale Gold, Astral White and VR violet. Try Ultima Taupe for the whole eye lid to create a base and texture and the rest of the colors for details on the outside corner, and for the dark colors and inside corner and water line used the lighter colors, not to create a shape but simply shading and playing with colors
Complete the look with Dior Show Black 090 mascara. Don’t forget to curl the lashes before also so you can add individual false lashes from the middle out to give more of the cat eye effect.
For The Cheeks
Simancas applies Nars Desire Blush to the cheekbones.
For The Lips
Simancas colors the lips with Outrage lipstick and Kiss My Pink from Lipstick Lobby. You can use a full color by applying with a brush, or tap with your finger for less density.
